Classes, exercises and advice for women of all ages


Mercede was a fitness instructor at the studio, before training and working as a paramedic.
In the latter role she has successfully delivered several babies and continues to practise as a paramedic part time.
Now she has her own family she enjoys passing on her knowledge and experience to Mums and Mums to be with 5wk courses running on a regular basis.
She holds a REPS level 3 qualifications in pre and post natal exercise, additional training in the area of abdominal separation, and is an 'I Move Freely' Biomechanic based instructor.
Mercede is currently training in Mum to be massage.

Pre, ante and post natal exercise

The ante and postnatal period sees your body changing enormously and the exercise you do must take account of these changes.
We take antenatal and postnatal clients in most of our classes but Fit4Mums will offer classes specifically aimed at addressing the fitness needs of ante and postnatal women.
We often see mums with children of school age who still have muscle imbalances and pain which originated in the ante or postnatal period.

Antenatal exercise during pregnancy can:
  • Reduce back-pain and general discomfort
  • Prepare your body to enable you to have an easier delivery
  • Reduce the risk of postnatal depression
  • Enable you to recover faster from the birth
  • Reduce tiredness throughout your pregnancy
  • Help you to sleep better

Postnatal exercise can:
  • Teach you to keep good posture while feeding and carrying your baby
  • Correct the muscle imbalances which cause poor posture
  • Work to restore stretched abdominal muscles
  • Give specific exercises for the pelvic floor
  • Reduce back-pain
  • Reduce the risk of postnatal depression

If you would like to work on the areas listed below you will be welcome at Fit4Mums classes regardless of how old your children are.

The classes will focus on:
  • Reducing backpain
  • Abdominal work
  • Pelvic Floor Dysfunction work
  • Correction of muscular imbalances caused by pregnancy

‘I Move Freely’ All Woman Exercise

A class for all women, working on the areas which tend to be either weak or too strong and which can cause problems at anytime from pregnancy through to menopause. Using the I Move Freely principles which are so popular combined with postural correction exercises but keeping it safe and beneficial for ante and postnatal women too.
Ideal if you have:
  • Back pain caused by a postural misbalance
  • Poor posture
  • Weak or separated abdominals
  • Concerns about your pelvic floor strength
  • Stress or anxiety causing physical symptoms

Start an exercise programme designed for women of your age and you will give yourself the best chance of aging well.

Exercise is as essential as the regular health checks your GP offers and can help with many of the health problems faced by menopausal women.

Women (and men) lose up to 5% of their lean muscle tissue per decade from their 30’s and significantly more after age 65. With less muscle mass you become weaker and less stable so it is directly related to maintaining good health.

The stronger your muscles, the higher your metabolism and the rate at which you burn calories, making it easier to control your weight.

Strong muscles keep you more stable on your feet reducing the risk of falling.

Being fitter reduces your risk of heart disease and diabetes.

When you have grandchildren to look after you need to be able to lift, carry and feel in control. You also need to be able to climb stairs easily and be fit enough to play with them in the park.

By keeping a little bit fitter you’ll be able to enjoy time with your grandchildren as well as having increased energy for your day to day life.
